Project title: Rapid HIV Testing

Project goal: Improving availability of HIV testing and raising awareness on importance and advantages of knowing one’s own HIV status.

Description: Rapid voluntary confidential counseling and testing was organised in November and December 2014. The testing was aimed at gay population for whom testing was conducted in front of gay clubs in Belgrade; and youth – specifically students for whom testing was conducted in student dormitories in Belgrade.

The testing was linked with the second paneuropean action European HIV Testing Week 2014, which was on November 21-28.

Testing encompassed the following student dormitories in Belgrade:

  • Student dormitory „Kralj Aleksandar I“
  • Student dormitory „Karaburma“
  • Student dormitory „4. april“
  • Student dormitory „Rifat Burdžević“
  • Student dormitory „Slobodan Penezić“
  • Student dormitory „Patris Lumumba“
  • Student dormitory „Studentski grad“
  • Student dormitory „Studentski grad“

With the gay community testing was conducted in the evening at pre agreed locations and in front of gay clubs Smiley and Mystique.

Result: There were 16 rapid testing events in Belgrade with a very high uptake by young men and women who came to check their HIV status, and to openly talk about HIV, other STDs and safe sex practices. The HIV testing uptake surpassed all our expectations.
